Mari Yamazaki’s historical comedy series Thermae Romae has officially announced a sequel to the manga titled Zoku Thermae Romae. The series will begin serialization on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website and app on February 6, 2024. The first page of the first chapter of the new series has also been released.

The sequel will continue the story of the main character, Roman architect Lucius, 20 years after the first part ended. Furthermore, it will also shed light on the fate of his Japanese wife Satsuki, as well as his work under the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius.
Thermae Romae’s original manga was published on Enterbrain and serialized in Comic Bean magazine from 2008 to 2013. The English release of the manga was licensed for distribution in North America by Yen Press, describing the plot as follows: When Roman architect Lucius was criticized for his “outdated” tropical bath designs, he retreated to the local bathhouse to collect his thoughts. All Lucius wants is to recapture the Rome of days past, when people could enjoy relaxing baths without the pressure of merchants and rough patrons. Sliding deeper into the warm water, Lucius is suddenly sucked in and pulled through the drain at the bottom of the bathtub! He coughs and sputters amidst a group of strange-looking foreigners with the strangest bathhouse customs… over 1,500 years later in modern-day Japan! His contemporaries wanted him to modernize, and so, borrowing the customs of these mysterious bath lovers, Lucius opened what quickly became the most famous new bathhouse in Rome-Thermae Romae!
