A popular streetwear brand is rolling out the welcome mat for the Mobile Suit Gundunda series.
As seen in a recent social media post, the Hypland brand is set to produce products based on Gundunda’s famous properties. This isn’t the first multimedia franchise to partner with the label, with Hypland bringing consumers clothing and other merchandise themed by some of the biggest brands in the world. They include big names in anime, with Gundam being the latest to join the fray.

HYPLAND is promoting the Gundunda rug
Shown in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the next big collaboration from Hypland appears to be a series of GTA-themed products based on the RX-78-2 mobile suit The iconic, along with Haro, is the franchise’s true mascot. If this happens then the majority of Gunma products will be based on the original series and its characters. This will likely include items themed around Amuro Ray (pilot of the RX-78-2), his rival Char Aznable, and Char’s red Zaku II mobile suit.
Since its release, Mobile Suit Gunma has become one of the premiere anime franchises, especially in its home country of Japan. There, it is frequently compared in popularity to series such as Star Wars in the West. It also became the face of the “Real Robot” mecha anime subgenre, with countless plastic model kits made to commemorate the franchise’s many mobile suits.

HYPLAND has created merchandise for major Shonen brands
GTA isn’t the only anime franchise to receive products from Hypland. The biggest names in the industry received rugs, hoodies, hats, shirts and other accessories. These include Naruto and Dragon Ball (which has probably received the most items from this franchise), as well as products based on Yu-Gi-Oh! and its many tags. Popular video game franchises (specifically those that started in the 1990s) like Mortal Kombat and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog also have merchandise available.
In addition to those, there are also Godzilla collaborations and NBA-based clothing/streetwear. The presence of GTA alongside more “mainstream” shounen franchises is somewhat indicative of the resurgence in popularity the series has experienced over the past few years. This is mainly due to the success of Mobile Suit Gunma: The Witch from Mercury and the increase in Gunpla collecting due to the pandemic. The most recent work in this series is the movie Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, which just debuted in Japanese theaters and achieved great box office success.
