Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia #411
Summary
Shigaraki’s next target in My Hero Academia is Mount Fuji, and his power has the potential to cause a catastrophic volcanic eruption. The destruction of Mount Fuji will have a huge psychological impact because it is a symbol of Japan and its people. Despite facing a difficult battle, Deku and the heroes are determined to prove that Shigaraki is not invincible.
My Hero AcademyShigaraki’s caused some major destruction, both during the final war and earlier in the story, using his enhanced Decomposition ability. However, his next goal could be his most impressive effort to date, as Shigaraki sets his sights on a symbol of incredible importance: Mount Fuji.
The battle between Shigaraki and Deku did not go well for the young hero, who in chapter #411 had one of the Powers of One for All stolen, costing him dearly while he continued empowered Shigaraki. Deku’s loss of Danger Sense made the fight much more dangerous, as Shigaraki was able to lead him into the Mount Fuji area, where his destructive power had the potential to cause real disaster. .
As Shigaraki gloats about his desire to flatten the horizon until nothing is left standing, the vestiges in One for All realize that Shigaraki’s Decline could very well destroy key parts of the mountain, causing a volcanic eruption the likes of which Japan has never seen.
Destroying Mount Fuji puts Shigaraki ahead of Deku
The fact that Shigaraki even thinks he has the power to destroy a mountain is disturbing enough, but there’s a very real possibility that he could do it, especially if he could trigger a volcanic eruption. During the Occult Liberation War, Shigaraki destroyed many square miles of the city, including giant skyscrapers, all without leaving a trace. His power has increased exponentially since then, so Taking down an entire mountain the size of Mount Fuji may be within his capabilities right now. That is a level of power that even All fo One cannot hope to compete with, proven by his recent defeat at the hands of Bakugo.
Tactically, destroying Mount Fuji would force Deku to be distracted by the damage caused by the eruption, but there would also be a huge psychological toll from its loss. My Hero Academia focuses on the power of symbols, with All Might as the “Symbol of Peace” and All for One as the “Symbol of Fear.” Mount Fuji itself is also a symbol, representing all of Japan and its people, Therefore, the destruction of Mount Fuji will be a great moral blow to everyone who is fighting against the villains to restore Japan to its former state. Shigaraki was certainly counting on this demoralizing effect, giving them a display of power that would make fighting against him hopeless.
Shigaraki wants to destroy the ground heroes
Shigaraki declared his intention to physically destroy Japan, letting his Decay spread to the ground and engulf the entire archipelago. Deku is certainly facing an uphill battle, but his ability to adapt to changing conditions on the battlefield has proven that he is not out of the fight yet. Shigaraki’s power seemed limitless at this point, but even All for One had limitations that eventually caught up with him. Deku has been pushed to his limits, but now is the time My Hero Academy to turn the situation around and prove it Your entry that he is not omnipotent.
