Over time, it can be clearly seen that the Dragon Ball series is a classic work that is almost sure to continue to affect culture. Great characters, memorable battles and unique transformations have been revolutionary for this industry. There was no doubt in the minds of any fan that Akira Toriyama was a genius that gave the world a real masterpiece.

However, even this amazing series has details that fans have to wonder about the decision behind them at least once. A perfect example of this is the lack of female warriors in the original series. Most fans do not know that the author has mentioned this issue in the past, explaining why he did not bring strong women into the original series.

Dragon Ball: Where are all the females?

Toriyama's original idea did not consider Saiyan

On July 2, 2004, Shueisha released a guide called TV Anime Guide: Dragon Ball Tenkaichi Densetsu, aiming to provide new fans about the animated adaptation of the Toriyama comic series . Among the many articles included in the magazine, there is a prominent article because of its importance to the series: an interview with the author of his favorite story. One of the many questions that the interviewer raised around the lack of strong female Saiyan in the manga. At that time in the series, there were no official women among Goku species.

Toriyama only answered that he knew that the Saiyan had a woman among them, confirmed by the fact that they would be necessary for this species to reproduce. The interviewer noted that this is true, because Vegeta may have a son with Bulma, proving that they need women to expand their genealogy. The author continued to say that, because the nature of the Saiyan was a warrior race, he simply did not think of putting women into his story at that time. The author will continue to reveal that, if he created the series later in his life, he would probably take them in.

The interviewer once again interrupted to agree that rarely found a strong female character in an anime Shonen at the time. Toriyama ended the topic by joking that it was difficult to defeat a woman anyway. This topic is not mentioned again when the interview continues. However, these claims shed light on one of the biggest mysteries in Dragon Ball, many years before fans began to wonder about this issue.

The shortage of female characters in Dragon Ball is the product of the era

One of the most interesting details about Toriyama's statement is the acknowledgment of Shonen's biggest problem. As the author of Dragon Ball and the interviewer confirmed, the industry had a problem when bringing powerful women into their story. Many fans have pointed out one of Shonen's biggest problems is to deceive the female characters aside. These manga tends to push them into supporting roles, only using them as love or simply ignore them to support men. Toriyama did not try to justify his decision and accept that his manga had followed the past conventions.

Toriyama has added the female Saiyan character for many years later

Although not appearing much in the early years of the series, the female Saiyan warriors became more popular when the story progressed. The first female member of this race is Pan, Goku's granddaughter and a innate warrior. She is a protagonist in the GT era, acting as one of the main characters and proves the true power of Saiyan women. Pan is the first female member of the Goku race to be officially introduced. Recently, she has become an important part of the Super series.

However, she was not the only Saiyan woman appearing in the series, because the Arc Tournament of Power introduced two more members to the group, Caulifla and Kale. Introduced in the #88 episode of the Dragon Ball Super, the indigenous warriors of this 6 -cosmic universe are among the strongest female characters in the series. They came from a universe where the Saiyan race was not destroyed by Frieza, allowing them to prosper and explore the universe.

They are extremely talented warriors, capable of approaching Super Saiyan transformation almost immediately after being introduced to this concept. They act as Z Warriors' main villains in the Arc of the League of Power, increasingly stronger when Goku and Vegeta taught them about their natural battle instincts. As Toriyama implies in their interviews, they are really difficult rivals to defeat, with their union is one of the strongest opponents that Goku has ever fought.

Although not as related to other characters, but there is no doubt that the Dragon Ball series has followed Toriyama's wishes by putting into strong female warriors Saiyan. With the growing storyline, more female warriors can be introduced, expanding the cast of this favorite series.
