Nintendo has announced that Bayonetta 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch this year and will feature a new playable assistant.
Bayonetta 3 is expected to release at the end of October this year.
Nintendo has announced that Bayonetta 3 will launch on Nintendo Switch this year, making it the major Halloween release for the system. This announcement comes as a shock after Bayonetta 3 received an adult rating by the ESRB, which indicates that the game is nearing completion.
Bayonetta 3 was one of the last games announced in the Switch’s first year, but it took a long time to actually hit store shelves. Nintendo Switch’s initial announcement in 2017 included Shin Megami Tensei V and hints at a third No More Heroes game, both due out in 2021. Bayonetta 3 was announced at The Game Awards 2017 and it won’t be released until this year. The only glitch left at this point is Metroid Prime 4, which was announced at E3 2017 and hasn’t been seen since.
The official Nintendo UK YouTube account has uploaded a new action game trailer for Bayonetta 3, confirming that the title will launch on October 28. The trailer reveals that Bayonetta will not be a character. only playable in the game, as a sword-wielding apprentice witch named Viola will join, who fights alongside a giant demon Chesire Cat. The villains in the game have also been revealed to be biological weapons, rather than forces from Heaven or Hell, as seen in previous Bayonetta games.
The story of Bayonetta 3 seems to involve multiple realities, with invaders trying to obliterate different worlds. Characters from other Bayonetta games will still be present, as Rodin, Enzo, and Luka all appear in the trailer, although Jeanne is significantly absent. Action-packed video of Bayonetta on the tracks was shown in the trailer, with one segment involving the use of cannons on the back of a moving train, against homunculi biological weapons. The trailer featured some giant, Kaiju-like battles in Bayonetta 3, with Bayonetta familiars now engaging in kaiju-style battles with other monsters.
Bayonetta 3 will have stiff competition later this year against other hit products, as the game launches on the same day as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Resident Evil RE: Verse, and launches the same week as Scorn, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Gotham Knights and new versions of Persona 5 Royal on consoles, including one on Nintendo Switch. However, the fan’s craving for this new Bayonetta is still very strong, and no other game released during that period has been a Switch exclusive.
